Steitz Chardonnay Alte Reben 2023 – elegant regional wine from Rheinhessen

Steitz Chardonnay Alte Reben 2023 is the epitome of pure regional quality from Rheinhessen. Harvested from over 30-year-old vines on volcanic melaphyr, spontaneously fermented and aged for 10 months in Tonneau – this Chardonnay displays its mineral-salty freshness, delicate creaminess and clear cool-climate structure.

Steitz Regional Wine – advantages at a glance:

  • Terroir-driven & mineral – volcanic melaphyr soil imparts salty-cool tension.
  • Old vines & artisanal vinification – intense fruit and structure through several hours of skin contact, spontaneous fermentation and batonnage.
  • Texture & freshness in harmony – delicately creamy Tonneau aging, balanced acidity and precise acidity play.

Volcanic Melaphyr Soil as a Flavor Anchor

The grapes come from one of the coolest sites in Rheinhessen, the "Rheinhessische Schweiz" (Rhenish Switzerland). The volcanic melaphyr soil, rich in calcareous deposits, provides this Chardonnay with its salty minerality and precise structure. What used to be "just" a village wine now presents itself as a true terroir statement: Chardonnay Alte Reben Wonsheim.

Tradition Meets Artisanal Technique

The regenerative agriculture practiced by the father-son team Christian and Finn Steitz ensures a natural balance of the soils. This includes species-rich greening and rolling, application of compost teas, gentle pruning, manual defoliation, and of course, hand harvesting.

Hand-picked, pressed after skin contact and spontaneously fermented – aged for 10 months in Tonneau on the full lees with regular batonnage. This minimalist approach ensures depth and authenticity for the "Chardonnay Alte Reben" – without excessive oak influences. The new label highlights craftsmanship and origin.

Fine Fruit, Salty Freshness, Clear Expression

In the glass, a complex spectrum emerges: yellow apple, pear, melon, quince, nuanced by delicate nutty notes and fine oak spice with a saline-oily texture. The freshness remains cool, the structure velvety-creamy and at the same time refreshing. A Chardonnay for discerning connoisseurs.

The mineral Steitz Chardonnay Alte Reben 2023 from 30-year-old vines, grown on melaphyr, aged 10 months in Tonneau – salty-mineral, delicately creamy, with a clear structure. Elegant, fresh – a clear statement from Rheinhessen.

Steitz Chardonnay Alte Reben 2023 from Rheinhessen – grown on volcanic soil, spontaneously fermented, Tonneau-aged, salty minerality and creamy texture. An elegant Rheinhessen wine.
