Weingut Steitz – Neu-Bamberg Riesling

The Neu-Bamberg Riesling 2021 from Weingut Steitz is a mineral-rich village wine from Rheinhessen. Recently awarded 2nd place at the Vinum Riesling Champion in the dry village wine category.

This Riesling presents itself confidently in a bright yellow: herbal notes of young fennel greens and chervil are citrussy fresh, underpinned with grapefruit and lemon balm. Slightly smoky accents from the porphyry are complemented by white peach. On the palate, the linear Riesling acidity arc sets the direction. Aromatic notes of yellow core fruit and citrus are harmoniously flanked by invigorating phenolics.

Aromatically spiced dishes, such as mild curries or Lebanese cuisine, pair excellently with this Riesling; for the adventurous, it can also be a bit spicier: try it with South Indian Vindaloo or Thai cuisine.

Grown on porphyry from vineyards around Neu-Bamberg, after harvesting and slow fermentation, it underwent a long period of aging on lees, 80% in large wooden casks and 20% in stainless steel. This allows the elegant Neu-Bamberg Riesling to show its special terroir with unique minerality, a slender finish, and piquant saltiness. Weingut Steitz is a member of Maxime Herkunft Rheinhessen.

Christian and Diana – Children of Rheinhessen

Christian and Diana Steitz have taken on a lot in recent years. In 2015, nine years ago, the two completely took over the winery from Christian's parents. It began with the redesign of the labels and a new homepage. This was followed by major renovations at the winery and the newly designed guest rooms, but the upheaval went much deeper. Christian Steitz has found his own style, moving towards more natural winemaking methods, experimenting with orange wines and Prädikat wines. A great development that we have been able to accompany for more than 15 years.
