Vinfabriken Äppelglögg – White Apple Mulled Wine
The Vinfabriken Äppelglögg from Sweden is a white apple mulled wine made from cider. The Äppelglögg has a fruity taste with a distinct character of red apples, spiced with cinnamon and a subtle note of orange and vanilla. The apple mulled wine should be served hot in winter - in summer, with a few ice cubes, it becomes a refreshing treat.
The word Glögg is the shortened form of glödgat vin and actually means nothing other than mulled wine. Glögg is sometimes also called Swedish punch or Swedish mulled wine. Usually, it consists of red lingonberry wine, but when made from cider, Äppelglögg is a fruity alternative to white mulled wine made from grapes.
Vinfabriken Äppelglögg – Swedish Tradition
Traditionally, Glögg is drunk in Sweden during Advent and especially on St. Lucia's Day. It is accompanied by Lussekatter (sweet saffron buns) and gingerbread. During the pre-Christmas period, Glögg (also non-alcoholic) is offered everywhere in Sweden at any time of day. Enjoy it steaming hot in good company, then the cold won't stand a chance, at least for a while.
We recommend serving Vinfabriken Äppelglögg, apple mulled wine according to Swedish tradition, in a cup with a spoon. Cover the bottom of the cup with chopped almonds and raisins and fill it with the gently warmed apple cider Glögg.
