About the Guerrieri winery and Le Marche

Azienda Agraria Guerrieri has been located in the Le Marche region on Italy's east coast, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, since 1800. The family-run winery has cultivated its vineyards for generations with the greatest care and dedication. Since 2004, the winery has been working close to nature, meaning no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used. The vineyards are located 12 km from the sea at an altitude of 200 m above sea level. The area is called the "Metauro Valley," after the Metauro River, the longest river in Le Marche, which flows through the entire valley.

The climate in Le Marche, located in the "heart of Italy," is mild and harmonious, with significant temperature fluctuations and constant wind. The climate of the Metauro Valley is influenced by the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Apennines to the west.

Sustainable Production

The vineyard where the Bianchello and Verdicchio grapes for this Marche Bianco IGT grow is located on the east bank of the Metauro. The soil consists of grayish calcareous mud, which turns light blue after just a few meters depth. The topsoil consists predominantly of silty loam with small carbonate nodules, formed by water erosion and the conversion of inorganic plant matter into humus. The vines are between 20 and 30 years old and are not planted too densely, with 3,300 vines per hectare. The work for a good vintage begins in winter with pruning the vines, followed by green manuring and early thinning of the grapes at the beginning of summer, careful selection of hand-picked grapes at the start of the harvest at the end of September.

The grapes for the Bianco Marche Bianco IGT 2024 are hand-picked and gently processed to preserve the natural aromas and high quality of the wine. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks, which maintains the freshness and purity of the aromas. A small portion of the grapes (10% Verdicchio) undergoes a short skin maceration and then matures for three months on the lees, followed by 10 months in cement tanks. The larger portion (90% Bianchello) rests for several months on the lees and a good 4 months in oak barrels, which gives it additional structure and complexity.
