Bio

Kusmi Tea Sweet Love. Black tea with spices, licorice, and pink pepper.

Kusmi Tea Sweet Love is a flavored black tea with cardamom, cinnamon, anise, clove, licorice, pink pepper, and guarana. Not a simple breakfast tea, not a pure black tea, not a caffeine-free herbal tea.

Kusmi Tea Sweet Love is a flavored black tea from the French tea house Kusmi Tea, combining a robust tea base with a sweet and spicy blend of spices. Anise and clove lead the aroma, supported by the soft sweetness of licorice root. On the palate, cardamom and cinnamon join in, while pink pepper adds a bright, slightly fruity note. The black tea gives the blend body and a malty depth. In the loose leaf, pink berries shimmer between the dark tea leaves. Sweet Love tastes like a soft, sweet chai, packaged in Kusmi's familiar pink tin. It's a tea for an afternoon when you take your time.

Sweet Spice on Robust Black Tea

Sweet Love is a sweet and spicy herbal tea that contains no sugar and draws its sweetness solely from licorice root. Anise and clove give it a warm, almost licorice-like depth. Cardamom and cinnamon layer softly over it, and pink pepper brings a fruity-peppery freshness. Beneath it is a malty black tea that holds the spices together and gives the blend structure.

On the palate, the infusion is full-bodied, round, and lingeringly sweet. The aftertaste is reminiscent of licorice and roasted spices. In the cup, Sweet Love appears dark and clear, with a warm, reddish-brown hue. The sweetness comes solely from the ingredients, not from added sugar.

Anyone looking for a clear, tart black tea without sweetness will find Sweet Love too aromatic. Those who dislike anise and licorice should also choose a different variety. This blend is not intended for a simple breakfast tea. It is intentionally sweet and spice-focused.

As Chai Latte and for Dessert

Sweet Love is prepared with 90 °C water and a steeping time of three to five minutes. One heaped teaspoon is enough for a large cup. A longer steeping time enhances the spices without making the black tea bitter. If you prefer it milder, stick to three minutes.

With hot, frothed milk and a spoonful of honey, Sweet Love becomes a homemade chai latte. On its own, it pairs well with winter pastries such as gingerbread, speculoos, or a slice of apple pie. It also makes a good companion to dark chocolate or an orange dessert. If you like, brew it double strength and serve it over ice as spiced iced tea. With a piece of star anise and an orange slice, it becomes a warming infusion for the afternoon.

For a chai latte, steep two heaped teaspoons of Sweet Love for five minutes in 150 milliliters of water. Add 150 milliliters of frothed milk and stir briefly. Due to the licorice, this infusion usually does not need additional sugar.

Good to know: Black tea and guarana both contain caffeine — something to consider for caffeine-sensitive individuals late in the evening. If you like the strong, spicy profile, you can also find it in a spicy mate green tea or a classic black tea.
