Cornichons Francais – small gherkins from Martin-Pouret

The cornichons from Martin-Pouret are small gherkins in a jar from Orléans, France. These French gherkins are grown in the Loire Valley. Extra fresh, they are pickled immediately after harvesting in Orléans vinegar produced by the company itself. They are crunchy and not only wonderfully sourly marinated with the finest white wine vinegar but also seasoned with white onions, salt from Guérande, spices such as Val de Loire mustard seeds and pepper, as well as herbs, coriander, and tarragon.

Cornichons, French gherkins, are versatile. You can serve the small gherkins with hearty meals, with game or poultry pâtés, roast beef, or with cold cut or cheese platters. They go well with potato salad, meatballs, fried potatoes, or aspic. You can make remoulade from them, put them on hot dogs or burgers, because they are simply delicious. Here in a 270g jar.

Orléans was once the stronghold for vinegar production in France; even the king acknowledged the special quality of Orléans vinegar in a decree in 1590. However, only one of the 300 vinegar manufacturers remains: Maison Martin Pouret. Since 1797, they have been producing high-quality vinegar in a traditional way, which is still allowed to mature in wooden barrels. In addition to vinegar, the company also produces pickled preserves, such as cornichons pickled in vinegar, and Moutarde, French mustard.

Besides the quality of the gherkins, the quality of the vinegar is crucial for the taste of the pickled gherkins. It's no wonder, then, that the cornichons pickled in Martin-Pouret's Orléans vinegar taste so wonderful.

The unmistakable character and the unique, full-bodied taste of Orléans mustard are based on a traditional recipe passed down from the 18th century, the over 200 years of proven expertise of the Maître Vinaigrier, the selection of the best ingredients, as well as the commitment of the new owners David Matheron and Paul-Olivier Claudepierre, who took over the vinegar house in 2019 and proudly look back on a unique heritage, the tradition of the great vinegar masters, which they are now allowed to continue.
