Martin Pouret – fine food with Cornichons

Martin-Pouret's cornichons are small, pickled gherkins from Orléans, France. These French gherkins are grown in the Loire Valley and are extra fresh, pickled immediately after harvesting in Orléans vinegar from their own production. They are crunchy and not only wonderfully sour-marinated with the finest white wine vinegar, but also seasoned with white onions, salt from Guérande, spices such as Val de Loire mustard seeds and pepper, as well as herbs, coriander and tarragon. Here, the full pleasure of these wonderful Martin-Pouret gherkins has been combined with a delicious pork terrine.

The French country terrine with gherkins is a versatile pâté in a jar. You can enjoy it on dark farmhouse bread, French sourdough bread or German black bread, it goes well with cold cuts or cheese platters, with gherkins or other French pickles. You can eat it with a green salad or serve it with fried potatoes. Here in a 150g jar.

French Country Terrine with Gherkins

Once, the city of Orléans was the stronghold for vinegar production in France; even the king recognized the special quality of vinegar from Orléans in a decree in 1590. However, of the 300 vinegar manufacturers, only one remains: Maison Martin Pouret. Since 1797, they have been producing high-quality vinegar in the traditional way, which is still allowed to mature in wooden barrels. David Matheron and Paul-Olivier Claudepierre, who took over the vinegar house in 2019 and are proud of a unique heritage, the tradition of the great vinegar masters, which they can now continue. In addition to vinegar, the company also produces pickled preserves, such as pickled cornichons, and French mustard. Or, as here in collaboration with a terrine maker from Chambord, a pork pâté with gherkins.
