Raspberry Spirit by Faude feine Brände

The Faude feine Brände Himbeergeist (Raspberry Spirit) is a magnificent spirit from the in-house distillery in Kaiserstuhl. Master distiller Florian creates a delicately fragrant composition from the finest raspberries, delivering a full-bodied spirit to the glass. Only fully ripe fruit of the best quality is processed into delightful spirits at his distillery in Bötzingen, because, as the experienced distiller is sure: a good distillate begins with a top-quality fruit. It's no coincidence that his brandies have won national and international awards, and the raspberry spirit made from garden raspberries is one of the classics in the Faude feine Brände range that no home bar should be without.

Faude Garden Raspberry – from Kaiserstuhl

Fresh garden raspberries, hand-picked in Kaiserstuhl and Ortenau, form the basis for this powerful and expressive spirit, which gets its rich raspberry aroma from the enormously high berry content. The prescribed minimum alcohol content for Himbeergeist is 40% vol., and that's exactly how Florian sets it. As with all his distillates, he refrains from adding any flavors or colorants to the Himbeergeist. Even though other distillers swear by wild raspberries, Florian prefers to work with garden raspberries. The delicate red fruits are processed bush-fresh in Bötzingen.

Geist instead of Brand – Florian explains

A spirit made from raspberries is not a "Brand" (brandy) but a "Geist" (spirit). "A Geist," Florian explains, "opens up possibilities for the distiller to do known things differently and to play with the unknown." Unlike with brandy, Florian uses fruits that, due to their low sugar content, cannot be mashed and fermented, such as the Sicilian raspberry. "Here we take a piece of nature," Florian continues, "steep it in the purest grain alcohol so that it can release its full aroma into the alcohol, and then distill the 'flirt' after a short time. This way, only clear notes and the fine raspberry aroma enter the distillate, and not the bitter notes of the seeds. What we save in time, we make up for in fruit." With the good, soft water of the Black Forest, the spirit is then reduced to drinking strength (40% vol. alcohol) and filled without chill filtration into classic 500ml frosted glass bottles, which are reserved for the four citrus spirits. "The result: a highly harmonious paradox. Intensely fresh, immediately present, yet – multifaceted and light-footed."
