Pinot Noir – Organic Spätburgunder by Gernot Heinrich
The Gernot Heinrich Pinot Noir 2022 is an organic red wine that grows partly on limestone-rich soils near the cooling edge of the Leitha Mountains and partly on sun-drenched slopes at the southeastern edge of the Parndorfer Platte with gravelly-sandy-loamy sedimentary soils, i.e., on both sides of Lake Neusiedl in the Austrian Burgenland.
The Pinot Noir from Weingut Heinrich is a slender, unfussy Spätburgunder with great drinkability. It is translucent in color, delicate in scent; fresh blackberries and light red raspberries mingle with wild herbs and orange zest, meeting a lively acidity and soft tannins on the palate. The 2022 Heinrich Pinot Noir has a wonderful tension that makes you want a second glass.
Heinrich – Winemaking
The Pinot Noir grapes, hand-picked at the end of September 2022, come from both sides of Lake Neusiedl, from the Leitha Mountains and the Parndorfer Platte. Heike and Gernot Heinrich cultivate their vineyards organically-biologically or biodynamically, with a lot of manual labor and care. After harvesting, the grapes remain on the mash for a week, then gently pressed in a basket press and spontaneously fermented. The Pinot Noir matured for 7 months in wooden fermentation vats on natural lees before being bottled at the end of March 2023.
