Pannobile 2017 - Organic Red Wine from Winery Gernot Heinrich
The Gernot Heinrich Pannobile 2017 is an organic red wine made from Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt grapes, some of which grew on southern slopes around Gols and some on limestone and slate soils on the eastern slopes of the Leithagebirge, i.e. on both sides of Lake Neusiedl in the Austrian Burgenland.
The nose detects dark berry fruits such as blueberries, sloe, black cherry, along with a sweet floral scent, something reminiscent of almonds, and a spiciness, even smokiness, due to the slate. On the palate, the Pannobile from Weingut Heinrich shows fine-grained, grippy tannins while also offering a velvety softness and a pleasant coolness. Resistance to drinking is futile.
Gernot Heinrich – Winemaking
The Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch grapes, hand-picked from early September to early October 2017, grow in vineyards organically cultivated by Heiko and Gernot Heinrich with great manual effort and care. After harvesting, the grapes remain on the mash in wooden fermenters for three weeks, ferment spontaneously, and are then gently pressed in a basket press. The Pannobile matured for 21 months in used 500-liter oak barrels before being bottled at the end of July 2019.
