Terroir and Winemaking Philosophy
The Gunderloch winery cultivates three Grand Cru sites along the Roter Hang: Rothenberg, Pettenthal, Hipping. The characteristic red clay slate imbues the wine with subtle depth, concentrated fruit, and spicy elegance. On the glowing red soils of the Roter Hang, Riesling grapes grow in steep vineyards that slope and open towards the Rhine. The vineyards are cultivated organically, gently worked, and cared for. Gentle pruning, natural fertilization, yield reduction through grape splitting and thinning, selective, manual harvesting in several passes are mandatory here. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wines remain on the fine lees until spring, which gives the wines stability and good aging potential and supports the development of aromas. The subsequent aging in 600-liter wooden barrels perfects the characteristic Gunderloch taste: mineral-cool, with crystal-clear fruit and vibrant, well-integrated acidity.
Enjoyment & Versatility
The easy-drinking estate wine, which, in addition to its unique minerality, also displays fine fruit aromas of yellow stone fruit and citrus notes, is an stimulating food companion with its very balanced taste profile. With 12% alcohol and stainless steel aging (partially large wood), the 2024 vintage offers a fine acidity, refreshing crispness, and charming creaminess – a perfect accompaniment to herb schnitzel, spicy vegetables, gnocchi, or Asian sweet and sour dishes.
