Oliver Zeter Syrah Reserve 2022 – a Palatinate Red Wine from Terracotta Amphorae

The Oliver Zeter Syrah Reserve 2022 is fleshy on the palate, lightly smoky with notes of black olives and ripe sloes. The wine, with a lot of grip, shows enormous concentration without drifting into jamminess. On the nose, the Zeter Syrah Reserve, a red wine from the Palatinate, presents itself as fine and fresh, with subtle nuances of iron and many blue berries.

Oliver Zeter – Winemaking

Oliver Zeter planted his first Syrah vineyard in Hambach as early as 2009, followed by the second vineyard in the Rhodter Rosengarten site in 2013. The cuttings came directly from a vine nursery in Orange on the Rhône, whose vines are known and sought after worldwide for their outstanding quality. Both sites are characterized by their east-south orientation and by the skeletal, fast-warming soils. Perfect conditions for this heat-loving Rhône grape variety. The Guyot training of the vines in a low arch allows optimal access in the grape zone.

Oliver Zeter had a clear stylistic direction in advance, and the motto was "Syrah", not "Shiraz"! After classic mash fermentation, in which a portion of the grapes was fermented with stems to bring out the fine Northern Rhône style, the wine spent 14 months in newly acquired terracotta amphorae, with a small part maturing in barriques. Another 12 months of bottle aging beautifully complement the red wine, which was bottled without fining or filtration.
