T3 Wind Deflector. Wind protection, adjustable grill height, and skewer holder in one part.
The T3 Wind Deflector is a stainless steel attachment for the Thüros T3 that protects the embers from wind and simultaneously allows for adjustable grill height. No lid, no hood, no substitute for a closed grill.
The T3 Wind Deflector is the best-selling accessory for the Thüros grill and fits exclusively the T3. Anyone who has ever grilled in crosswinds knows the picture: On the windward side, the meat is done, on the other, it's still raw. The deflector stands on three sides around the charcoal tray, preventing direct wind access. On the T3, measuring 42 by 42 centimeters, it covers the full width of the charcoal tray.
Three functions in one deflector
The wind deflector is not just for wind protection, even if the name suggests it. It performs three functions simultaneously.
Firstly, it keeps drafts away from the embers, so the charcoal burns evenly instead of cooling down on one side. Secondly, it supports the grill grate and thus makes the height adjustable: The grate can be hooked in at several levels, closer to the embers for steaks, further away for vegetables. Thirdly, it holds grill skewers and serves as a holder for the warming rack.
Tool-free assembly
The deflector is simply placed on the grill head; nothing more is needed. It stays in place due to its own weight and shape; there are no screws or clamps.
This is an advantage for a part that is removed and cleaned after every grilling session. It can be laid flat for storage. If you store the grill over the winter, this saves noticeable space.
Stainless steel V2A, like the entire grill
The deflector is made of non-magnetic V2A stainless steel, the same material as the grill itself. For a component that sits directly over the embers and gets wet regularly, this is not a minor aspect: It does not rust, does not permanently warp when heated, and can be cleaned with a sponge.
You should be aware of one limitation: Stainless steel discolors over the embers. After the first season, the deflector will show tarnishing in gold and blue. This is normal, has no impact on function, and cannot be prevented.
Why it's worth it for the T3
If you plan to expand your T3 later with a warming rack or charcoal shaft, you'll need the deflector anyway. It is the basis for both. For indirect grilling and smoking, the deflector alone is not suitable because it remains open at the top. For that, you'll additionally need the barbecue hood.
The part that turns a good grill into a reliable one.
