Questions about Frauenhügel Lagrein Riserva – 2022?

We are happy to help you with Cantina Kurtatsch.

Kellerei Kurtatsch Frauenhügel Lagrein Riserva 2022: Powerful Pleasure from South Tyrol

Kellerei Kurtatsch Frauenhügel Lagrein Riserva 2022 is an impressive red wine from South Tyrol, made from the indigenous Lagrein grape variety. This grape, genetically related to Syrah, is one of the oldest in South Tyrol and thrives in the warm, low-lying vineyards of the south. The Frauenhügel presents a seductive bouquet of wild berries, elderberries, black cherries, and cocoa beans. On the palate, it convinces with balsamic tannins, refined by 12 months of aging in barriques and large oak barrels. Roasted aromas and a lively acidity are harmoniously combined with the powerful, fruity body. The clayey soil gives the wine its typical spice and an individual earthy note.

  • Seductive aroma profile: Intense notes of wild berries, black cherries, and cocoa beans ensure a complex taste experience.
  • Harmonious aging: 12 months of storage in barriques and large oak barrels give the wine balsamic tannins and elegant roasted aromas.
  • Terroir-driven character: The clayey soil of Frauenhügel brings forth a spicy and earthy note that makes the wine unmistakable.

Unique Terroir of Frauenhügel

The Frauenhügel vineyards are located at an altitude of 300 to 350 meters above sea level and are oriented southeast. This warm microclimate with large temperature differences between day and night favors the ripening of the Lagrein grapes and contributes to the development of complex aromas.

Careful Vinification for Highest Quality

The grapes are fermented at controlled temperature in rotary tanks and then aged for 12 months in barriques and large oak barrels. This process allows the fruitiness of the wine to be preserved while developing a harmonious tannin structure.

Perfect Companion for Hearty Dishes

The Kellerei Kurtatsch Frauenhügel Lagrein Riserva 2022 pairs excellently with hearty meat dishes such as roast beef, game, or lamb. It is also an ideal companion to aged cheese, accentuating the wine's aromatic diversity.

The Journey of Lagrein: From Harvest to Bottle

This Lagrein is the result of careful harvesting and masterful winemaking. At Kellerei Kurtatsch, special emphasis is placed on environmentally friendly winemaking that preserves the authentic taste of the terroir. The Lagrein vines for this red wine from the Terroir line stand on clayey, sandy gravel soils in the first hillside locations between 300-350 m above sea level. The grapes from small-parcel vineyards with controlled yields are harvested by hand at the optimal ripeness and quickly brought in small boxes to the newly built, impressive winery in Kurtatsch. There, according to the specifications of winemaker Erwin Carli, they were destemmed and gently pressed after temperature-controlled mash fermentation in a rotary tank. The aging in barrique and large wooden barrels took place for 12 months. During the aging in large wooden barrels on the fine lees, the Lagrein underwent malolactic fermentation.

Kellerei Kurtatsch cultivates a deep connection to nature and its South Tyrolean homeland. This attitude is expressed in sustainable wine production, which aims for minimal environmental impact while emphasizing the uniqueness of the terroir. The cooperative is known for its exceptional wines, which are characterized by their elegance and complexity. The Kellerei Kurtatsch Frauenhügel Lagrein Riserva Südtirol DOC 2022 is no exception. This wine is a testament to the winery's commitment to quality and excellence.
