The Kohl Grand Cru Wintercalville is a unique mountain apple juice. That's why Thomas Kohl consciously bottles the delicious juice of the Wintercalville, an old apple variety, in a magnum bottle. It showcases the high value and very special quality of the Kohl Grand Cru mountain apple juice Wintercalville. Naturally, Kohl only uses apples from his own cultivation. In his cidery, he prefers to press old apple varieties, and only as direct juice.

The apple's flesh is yellowish, tender, very fine and loose, with hints of white peach and juicy yellow plums – resulting in a distinctive, unmistakable mountain apple juice.

When news of this excellent apple reached the Tsar's court, the "Meraner Calville Exportgesellschaft" promptly delivered it there. The Wintercalville apple truly has a long lineage, stretching back to the Middle Ages. Presumably originating in Normandy, the Wintercalville was widely spread and highly sought after for a long time, even in the highest circles: It was cultivated in the orchards of King Louis XIII in Orléans. And in France, this apple, which has become rare here, is still considered a gourmet apple and is served for dessert and often used for apple pie. The Wintercalville tree is sensitive and requires strong, good, warm soil, which Thomas Kohl can provide on the Ritten.

Kohl Grand Cru – naturally cloudy and single-varietal

The Kohl Grand Cru mountain apple juice is pressed as direct juice from the old Wintercalville apple variety. Kohl leaves the juice naturally cloudy and bottles it in magnum bottles. The apple juice is gently pasteurized in the bottle and not filtered. Single-varietal mountain apple juice is a specialty of Thomas Kohl, which is particularly evident in the Wintercalville apple juice: delicate aromas of white peach and yellow plums. A unique, delicious interplay of aromas.
