36° Grad Grenache Plum Herb – Non-alcoholic Food Pairing

The Manufaktur Jörg Geiger 36° Grad Grenache Plum Herb is a non-alcoholic red wine, skilfully refined with plum juice, herbs, blossoms and spices, making it a dry, non-alcoholic food companion.

The combination of de-alcoholized Grenache with plum and grape juice, as well as redcurrant and blackberry juice, results in a red-fruited bouquet. With this base, further refined with herbs, blossoms and spices, Jörg Geiger creates a drink that is reminiscent of a fruity red wine.

How the 36° Grad Grenache Tastes

The 36 Grad Grenache Plum Herb has a strong aroma of red grapes, juicy red fruits and ripe berries. On the palate, it is dry, opulent, berry-like with a herbaceous, ethereal impression and notes of rosemary and thyme. Thus, the non-alcoholic 36 Grad Grenache Plum Herb is a good food companion for spicy dishes, Southern French cuisine, braised Mediterranean vegetables, pan-fried dark meat and grilled Mediterranean fish, aged cheese, and a dry alternative to red wine without alcohol. Recommended drinking temperature 14-16 degrees.

Non-alcoholic Food Pairing – Jörg Geiger's "Grad-Wanderung" (Degree Walk)

GRAD°WANDERUNG, that's the name of Manufaktur Jörg Geiger's new non-alcoholic line, which offers four dry, de-alcoholized wines refined with herbs, blossoms and spices. By refining with juices and herbal extracts, a much more complex and diverse drink is created than a purely de-alcoholized drink, a wine without alcohol, could be.

Finally, Manufaktur Jörg Geiger has 20 years of experience in the non-alcoholic sector, and since 2021, its own de-alcoholization plant, and works exclusively with natural raw materials and products. For example, the still food companions are neither artificially sweetened nor de-acidified.

First, the red wine is gently de-alcoholized. Gently means removing the alcohol with minimal temperature application but maximum time. How low the temperature can be depends on the alcohol content of the wine used. The Riesling is de-alcoholized at 32°C, the Rosé at 33°C, the Sauvignon Blanc at 35°C, the Grenache at 36°C, and the Pinot Noir at 37°C. The temperature was thus the inspiration for the naming of this new non-alcoholic line.

Why is GRAD°WANDERUNG not a "real" non-alcoholic wine?

Despite all efforts, Jörg Geiger believes that pure de-alcoholized wine does not do justice to a high-quality product and the expectations associated with it. Although natural wine aromas are recaptured through aroma recovery, the part bound to alcohol is involuntarily lost, leading to a sensory change. Non-alcoholic wine was therefore always associated with sacrifice, not only of alcohol, and was not the equivalent counterpart to wine with alcohol. That's why innovator and affineur Jörg Geiger sees de-alcoholized wine merely as a welcome base to create new non-alcoholic beverages with less sweetness and a new diversity of fermentation aromas. With over 20 years of experience in "rethinking non-alcoholic," based on the use of around 200 dry spices, 70 freshly harvested herbs, 20 blossoms, and self-extracted hydrosols, he succeeds in creating unique still, dry food companions without alcohol. Since Jörg Geiger not only removes alcohol but also adds juice, herbs, blossoms, and spices, the sugar-reduced, non-alcoholic food companion may not legally be called non-alcoholic wine, but rather a de-alcoholized, flavored, wine-containing beverage. The alcohol content is usually 0.3% and always remains below the legal definition of "non-alcoholic" of <0.5 vol%. That's why Manufaktur Geiger uses the international designation "Alcohol removed."
