Sattlerhof – Alter Kranachberg Sauvignon Blanc
The Sattlerhof Alter Kranachberg Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is one of Austria's best white wines – a wine from the top vineyard site Kranachberg – a "Große STK Lage" (Grand Cru).
From the very beginning, the Kranachberg captivates. It displays all the well-known Sauvignon aromas. And beyond that, an impressive depth, precise, tightly woven and powerful, it rolls over the tongue and leaves salty memories. Perhaps the finest, most subtle and puristic Kranachberg of all time!
Excellent with Asian dishes, robust fish, crustaceans, and asparagus.
Sattlerhof Alter Kranachberg – Wine Production
The Alte Kranachberg is one of, if not the top vineyard site in Southern Styria. Steep vineyards, unpredictable weather, and diverse soils are the characteristics of the Southern Styria wine region. The single vineyard extends between Gamlitz and Leutschach and is primarily planted with Sauvignon Blanc (approx. 90%). The unique composition of these soils (calcareous sands with muscovite) gives the wine a distinctive spiciness with unmistakable fruit.
The fully ripe grapes from the top vineyard site, which is managed sustainably and biodynamically, are selectively hand-picked. Definitely one of the most successful wines from the exciting 2014 vintage. It is actually still too young for enjoyment, but the 5 years of bottle aging have done it good.
The Sattlerhof Alter Kranachberg Sauvignon Blanc needs a lot of air, immediately showing very mineral notes of cold smoke and white marble at the beginning. These do not come, as one might think, from oak aging, as the wine was completely fermented and aged in steel tanks, but from the unique site. Over time, more and more aromas emerge, reminiscent of fennel, asparagus, and green apples. Then it releases exotic yellow fruit notes such as honeydew melon and pineapple.
Optimal drinking maturity until 2031 and longer.
