Sattlerhof Gamlitz Morillon – Chardonnay from Southern Styria
The Sattlerhof Gamlitz Morillon 2020 is an elegant, dry Chardonnay from Styria in Austria – a Southern Styria DAC regional wine.
From the start, the Gamlitz Morillon is juicy, with delicate acidity, and characterized by a fine spiciness and a memorable smokiness. Here, too, it's the mix of "vegetal" and fruity aromas that makes this wine so exciting. On the nose, aromatic hazelnuts and a fine pear fruit join a fragrant herbal note. Filigree, lean, and with a light creaminess, that's how the Sattlerhof Gamlitz Morillon pleases. The Chardonnay is a good companion for delicate braised dishes, poultry and game birds like duck, or pâtés.
Sattlerhof – Winemaking
Steep vineyards, unpredictable weather, and diverse soils are the characteristics of the Southern Styria wine region. The vines for this Gamlitz Morillon regional wine from Sattlerhof grow around the three-thousand-soul community of Gamlitz. In the steep slopes at 350–450 m above sea level, 15-35 year old vines grow on crystalline quartz sands with mica.
The ripe Chardonnay grapes from their own vineyards, which are sustainably and biodynamically cultivated, are selectively hand-picked. After a short maceration period, the must is fermented without pumping in the impressive, newly built cellar in stainless steel tanks. Maturation also takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruitiness. A wine shaped by its terroir, quartz sand, and the cool microclimate around Gamlitz in Southern Styria, Austria.
