Sattlerhof – Sauvignon Blanc from the Kapellenweingarten vineyard
The Sattlerhof Kapellenweingarten Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is a captivating white wine from the higher, cool Kapellenweingarten site in Southern Styria.
From the first sip, the Kapellenweingarten captivates. It is juicy, complex, and characterized by deep spice. It is the blend of "vegetal" and fruity aromas that makes this wine so exciting. On the nose, grated lemon peel and Ribisel, as red currants are called in Austria, join ripe pear fruit with an intense herbal spice. Powerful on the palate, cool, invigorating with a salty finish. The Sauvignon Blanc Kapellenweingarten harmoniously accompanies fish dishes, pasta, risotto, and refined vegetable dishes with fennel or asparagus.
Sattlerhof – Wine Production
The Kapellenweingarten in the municipality of Eichberg is the newest and highest vineyard site acquired by the Sattler family. The first vintage from the highest vineyard of the winery was 2014. Two chapels of different designs and eras give this special place its name. At 550m above sea level, it is an airy, cool location with Kreuzberg sand and gravel soils where Morillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muskateller grow.
The fully ripe Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the Kapellenweingarten vineyard, which is sustainably and biodynamically cultivated, are selectively hand-picked, about a week later than the warmer Sernauberg, the Sattlers' local mountain. After a short maceration period, the must is fermented without pumping in the impressive, newly built cellar in stainless steel tanks. Maturation also takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruitiness. A wine characterized by its terroir, its soils, and the cool microclimate of this South Styrian location in Austria.
The single-vineyard wines, such as the Kapellenweingarten, come from the best vineyards of the Sattlerhof winery. They bear the name of the single vineyard on the label and are characterized by the independent minerality of the vineyards, old vines, very low yields, and the microclimate of the respective top site.
