Sattlerhof – Morillon Chardonnay from the Pfarrweingarten
The Sattlerhof Morillon Pfarrweingarten 2019 is an elegant, dry Chardonnay from Styria in Austria - a wine from the top vineyard site Pfarrweingarten – a Große STK Lage (Grand Cru). Currently awarded 96 points by the gourmet magazine Falstaff.
From the very beginning, the Sattlerhof Morillon Pfarrweingarten is juicy, with delicate acidity and characterized by a fine spice and a hint of roasted aromas. The complex Chardonnay shows a yellow-fruited nose of ripe apricots and tropical fruits, and a little dandelion blossom. Very harmonious and inviting; with aeration, a nutty touch emerges, pineapple meets toasted coconut flakes. On the palate, highly refined and vibrant, with an inspiring drinkability and fine extract sweetness. The Chardonnay is a good accompaniment to delicate braised veal dishes, but also to lamb fillet, game birds like duck, or pâtés.
Sattlerhof – Wine Production
Steep vineyards, unpredictable weather, and diverse soils are the characteristics of the South Styrian wine region. The vines for this Morillon Große STK Ried from Sattlerhof grow in the monopole site Pfarrweingarten. The small, sheltered south-facing basin with steep slopes and excellent shell and coral limestone soil gives this wine a mineral salinity and elegance.
The ripe Chardonnay grapes from their own vineyards, which are cultivated sustainably and biodynamically, are selectively hand-picked. After a short maceration, the must is fermented in wood in the impressive, newly built cellar without pumping. Matured in small wooden barrels, 18 months on the lees. A wine shaped by its terroir, shell limestone soils, and the microclimate in this unique vineyard in South Styria, Austria.
