Ried Alter Kranachberg – Top Sauvignon Blanc from Weingut Sattlerhof
The Sattlerhof Ried Alter Kranachberg Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is one of Austria's best white wines – a wine from the top vineyard site Kranachberg – a "Große STK Lage" (Grand Cru STK Site).
From the very beginning, the Kranachberg captivates. It displays all the familiar Sauvignon aromas. And beyond that, an impressive depth, precise, tightly-knit and powerful, it rolls over the tongue, leaving salty memories. Perhaps the finest, most subtle, and most puristic Kranachberg ever!
Excellent with Asian dishes, robust fish, shellfish, and asparagus.
Sattlerhof Ried Alter Kranachberg – Wine Production
The Alte Kranachberg is one of, if not the top vineyard site in Southern Styria. Steep slopes, unpredictable weather, and diverse soils are the characteristics of the Southern Styrian wine region. The single vineyard stretches between Gamlitz and Leutschach and is primarily planted with Sauvignon Blanc (approx. 90%). The unique composition of these soils (calcareous sands with light mica) gives the wine an unmistakable spice with distinctive fruit.
The fully ripe grapes from this top vineyard site, which is managed sustainably and biodynamically, are selectively hand-picked. Definitely one of the most successful wines from the exciting 2014 vintage. It's actually still too young to enjoy, but 5 years of bottle aging have done it good.
The Sattlerhof Alter Kranachberg Sauvignon Blanc needs a lot of air; right from the start, it shows very mineral notes of cold smoke and white marble. These do not come, as one might think, from oak aging, because the wine was completely fermented and aged in steel tanks, but from the unique site. Over time, more and more aromas emerge, reminiscent of fennel, asparagus, and green apples. Then it releases exotic yellow fruit notes like honeydew melon and pineapple.
Optimal drinking maturity until 2035 and longer.
